Also in the area are large swaths of degraded forest that look very irie and beautiful. KFCP have tested the incentive-based payments for REDD activities to find out how the incentives at the local level can support the reduction of emissions and encourage sustainable forest management. Initially, the incentive payment will be made to achieve a real benchmark in reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation. These benchmarks include capacity building activities and readiness, as well as the development of intervention strategies. Furthermore, the payment will be linked more closely to outcomes that can be measured that resulted in quantified emission reductions.
